Jordan Smale
Jordan Smale began his musical studies at age 10 starting with piano, which he studied for 10 years at the
Brentwood School of Music in Brentwood Bay, British Columbia. At age 11, Jordan picked up the trumpet for school
band and he began his studies with his first trumpet teacher, Joanne Allers at age 16 to begin preparing for a
university audition. After graduating from high school, he commenced studies at the University of Victoria and
completed a Bachelor of Music in Secondary Education, studying under renowned trumpeters Louis Ranger and Merrie
Klazek. However, Jordan caught the performance bug and instead of finishing his secondary education studies, he
decided to pursue a Master’s Degree at the University of Alberta, under the tutelage of the Edmonton Symphony
Orchestra’s principal trumpet, Robin Doyon.
During his time in Edmonton, Jordan had the opportunity to perform with the Edmonton Symphony, as
well as the Royal Canadian Artillery Band. Jordan was also an in-demand trumpet clinician in the Edmonton
Region, working with multiple middle schools and the Alberta Conservatory teaching beginner trumpet clinics.
Outside of civilian life, Jordan joined the Canadian Army Reserves in 2017 to join one of the professional
part-time military bands, starting out first with the Band of the 5 th Field Regiment RCA in Victoria, and
later playing with the Loyal Edmonton Regiment Band.
In 2023, Jordan passed an audition a spot with one of Canada’s six full time professional military
bands and was posted to the Royal Canadian Air Force Band in Winnipeg, Manitoba, where he calls home now.
Jordan has a passion for music education and performance and wishes to pass on that passion to future
musicians. Jordan has experience working and teaching all ages and all levels and experience.
